Re-browning Damascus barrels
We have just started work on a nice Riley 12 gauge percussion converted from a pin fire, which is a lovely best quality gentleman's game gun from the 1850's. Unfortunately the beautiful Damascus barrels have suffered over time, so we're bringing them back to their former glory with the traditional rust brown process the way they would have been done when they were made.
It takes a while and involves plenty of elbow grease and time rubbing down, with periods of sitting around and waiting for the formation of ferric iron within the Damascus.
There may well be another article showing it finished in about three to four weeks. Keep looking.
